What is Music Therapy?
音樂治療是透過由已完成認可音樂治療專業課程資格並持有合格證照的專業人員，運用臨床與證據支持的音樂介入方式，以達成個別化治療目標的過程。音樂治療的介入應用可以應用於各種醫療與教育目標，包括但不限於：促進身心健康、壓力管理、緩解疼痛、表達情感、提升記憶力、改善溝通技巧、促進身體康復 等等。(American Music Therapy Association, 2005)

常見服務對象有：早期療育、早產兒、自閉症、亞斯伯格、腦性麻痺、過動症、唐氏症、發展遲緩、憂鬱症、其他心理疾病、神經系統異常、復健、中風、帕金森式症、失智症、安寧醫療、減緩疼痛…等，音樂治療師服務的個案族群是非常廣的。不分年齡，不分性別，當然也不需要任何的音樂背景

Potential Clients
Common clients include:
early intervention for young children, premature infants, autism spectrum disorders, Asperger's syndrome, cerebral palsy, ADHD, Down syndrome, developmental delays, depression, other mental health illnesees, neurological abnormalities, rehabilitation, stroke, Parkinson's disease, dementia, palliative care, pain relief, etc.
The client population served by certified music therapists is very broad. It includes all ages, all genders, and does not require any musical background.

Who is a Qualified Music Therapist?
完成經認可的大學音樂治療課程（包括實習）後，即有資格參加由音樂治療師認證委員會提供的考試或資格審查、成功通過審查的音樂治療師將獲得音樂治療師認證資格，才可執行音樂治療。（American Music Therapy Association, 2005）
台灣教育部認可之音樂治療學位學程：私立輔仁大學音樂系碩士班/在職專班音樂治療組、私立東海大學音樂系碩士班音樂治療組。
不同國家有各自的執照資格：美國（MT-BC）、加拿大（MTA）、澳洲（RMT）、英國(RMT)、台灣（TRMT）
After completing an approved university music therapy degree program (including internships), one is eligible to take the examination or qualification review provided by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Those who successfully pass the review will be awarded the Music Therapist certification, allowing them to practice music therapy. (American Music Therapy Association, 2005)
Music therapy degree programs recognized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education include:
The Full time Master's or On-the-Job Master's Program in Music Therapy, Department of Music, Fu Jen Catholic University, and
The Master's Program in Music Therapy, Department of Music, Tunghai University.
Different countries have their own certification qualifications to practice as an eligible music therapist: the United States (MT-BC), Canada (MTA), Australia (RMT), the United Kingdom (RMT), and Taiwan (TRMT).

Music therapists work in various settings, including but not limited to hospitals, clinics, schools, studios, clients' homes, care facilities, long-term care centers, therapy centers, foundations, associations, development centers, halfway houses, and prisons.

音樂治療收費、現況
Music Therapy Fees and Current Legal Situation in Taiwan
台灣音樂治療相關醫療法規仍在立法階段，因此「音樂治療」這個詞彙仍相當敏感且可能被濫用。在參加音樂治療講座或活動之前，建議事先瞭解講者的背景，確認其是否持有相關證照及國內外合格大專院校音樂治療學位，以確保參與正規的音樂治療活動、保障自己的權益。
目前音樂治療尚未納入健保範疇，因屬於自費治療服務。收費因地區、機構、治療師資歷等因素而有所不同。一般而言，治療費用範圍大約在每半小時800至1200元，每50分鐘1600至2400元左右（僅供參考）。
部分縣市政府單位或民間機構可能提供相關補助，建議自行向相關機構或單位詢問是否有補助計畫可供利用。
Legal Status:
The relevant medical regulations for music therapy in Taiwan are still in the legislative stage. As a result, the term "music therapy" remains quite sensitive and may be subject to misuse. Before attending music therapy lectures or events, it is advisable to understand the speaker's background and verify if they hold the relevant certifications and degrees from accredited music therapy programs, either domestically or internationally. This ensures participation in legitimate music therapy activities and protects one's rights.
Fees:
Music therapy is not yet covered by the National Health Insurance and is therefore a self-funded service. The cost varies based on location, institution, therapist qualifications, and other factors. Generally, therapy fees range approximately from NT$800 to NT$1,200 per half hour, and about NT$1,600 to NT$2,400 per 50 minutes (for reference only).
Subsidies:
Some local government units or private organizations may offer relevant subsidies. It is recommended to inquire with the relevant institutions or units to see if there are any subsidy programs available
由於顧及個案隱私，音樂治療的臨床治療通常無法對外開放。然而，經驗是未來面試評委們非常重視的一環，如果您對音樂治療充滿好奇或需要相關經驗，我們建議主動聯繫音樂治療師們，詢問是否有類似的觀摩機會。另外，不一定需要參與音樂治療相關的活動，多多於不同的醫療/社福場域，從不同面向與不同族群、個案互動、累積經驗也能夠為您未來的學校面試、學習和工作提供寶貴的經驗。如果考慮參與志工活動，志工條件會因應不同的機構而異。建議直接與相關的單位聯絡，了解他們的具體要求和程序。

Due to client confidentiality, clinical music therapy sessions are typically not open to the public. However, experience is highly valued by admission interviewers for future schools. If you are curious about music therapy or need related experience, we recommend reaching out to music therapists directly to inquire about observation opportunities.
Moreover, it is not necessary to limit yourself to music therapy activities. Engaging in various medical and social welfare settings, interacting with different groups and clients, can also provide valuable experience for your future school interviews, learning, and career.
If you are considering volunteer activities, the requirements may vary depending on the organization. It is advisable to contact relevant units directly to understand their specific requirements and procedures.
